Jaime Basurto

Jaime Basurto is a lawyer and graduate of the Universidad Autonoma San Luis Potosi. (UASLP).  

 

He also holds a Bachelor of Civil Law (BCL) and a Juris Doctor degree (JD) from McGill University (Montreal, Canada).  

 

As a law student in San Luis Potosí, Jaime worked in regional law firms such as Torres Corzo y Asociados, Bufete de la Garza, and Orozco Sanchez y Asociados.  After graduating from law school, he served as Legal Director for the Government of the State of San Luis Potosí.  Later, in Mexico City, he acted as Corporate Legal Manager at Grupo Elektra.  Years after, he joined Grupo Televisa in that same position, being later promoted to General Counsel of the casino and lottery conglomerate “Apuestas Internacionales” (under the brands Sorteo del Trebol and PlayCity).  

 

In Canada, Jaime held the positions of Secretary, Legal Director, and Director of the Board of Directors of the Latin American Chamber of Commerce of Québec (CCLAQ).  After law school, Jaime competed and won the position of legal intern at the firm Spiegel Sohmer.  He worked as procurement and negotiation executive for the Asian and Latin-American markets for ALDO Shoes, King Canada and other companies.  Subsequently, Jaime held the position of Legal Counsel at Bombardier Transportation, where he participated in the expansion of operations in South America and acted as General Counsel of Bombardier Transportation México (Cd. Sahagun, Hidalgo). Recently, he held the position of Corporate Counsel for Grupo Sunwing, a leader in air transportation, hotels and tourism in Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean.  Jaime speaks Spanish, English and French and it is authorized to practice law in Canada (Law Society of Ontario) and Mexico.
